Luís Miguel Carvalho da Silva é mestre em História Contemporânea pela Universidade do Porto e investigador do Centro de Investigação Transdisciplinar «Cultura, Espaço e Memória».

No início do seu percurso académico estudou a participação portuguesa na Primeira Guerra Mundial tendo-se especializado na análise de fontes como diários e memórias de guerra. Produziu vários trabalhos de investigação relacionados com a vida religiosa dos combatentes portugueses. O seu estudo sobre a Liberdade Religiosa em contexto de guerra valeu-lhe em 2019 o Prémio da Liberdade Religiosa.

Nos últimos anos tem estudado as relações entre o Estado Português e a Igreja Católica. A História da Espiritualidade e da Mística em Portugal no século XX também tem merecido a sua atenção. Estão para ser publicados vários artigos seus sobre estas matérias.

Atualmente é bolseiro da Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia estando a realizar o seu Doutoramento em História pela Universidade do Porto. A sua investigação atual centra-se na figura de D. Sebastião Soares de Resende e na presença colonial portuguesa em Moçambique entre 1943 e 1967.

Do ponto de vista técnico e metodológico tem trabalhado com um vasto e diversificado conjunto de fontes: como diários, pastorais, homílias, correspondência, relatórios anuais, estudos técnicos e relatórios de inspeções, jornais, revistas, cadernos de viagens e livros de memórias.

A sua atividade como investigador tem-se centrado em quatro áreas:
– História Militar: a participação portuguesa na Primeira Guerra Mundial
– História da Espiritualidade e da Mística em Portugal
– Biografia de religiosos e História da Igreja Católica no século XX
– História da presença colonial portuguesa e da missionação em Moçambique

Luís Miguel Carvalho da Silva holds a Master’s degree in Contemporary History from the University of Porto and is a researcher at the Transdisciplinary Research Center “Culture, Space, and Memory”.

In the beginning of his academic career he studied the Portuguese participation in the First World War, specializing in the analysis of sources such as diaries and war memoirs. He produced several research works related to the religious life of the Portuguese combatants. His study on Religious Freedom in the context of war earned him the Religious Freedom Prize in 2019.

In recent years he has been studying the relations between the Portuguese State and the Catholic Church. The History of Spirituality and Mysticism in Portugal in the 20th century has also merited his attention. Several of your articles on these matters are about to be published.

He is currently on a scholarship from the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia and is pursuing his PhD in History at the University of Porto. His current research focuses on the figure of D. Sebastião Soares de Resende and the Portuguese colonial presence in Mozambique between 1943 and 1967.

From a technical and methodological point of view, he has worked with a wide and diverse set of sources: such as diaries, pastorals, homilies, correspondence, annual reports, technical studies and inspection reports, newspapers, magazines, travel notebooks, and memoirs.

His activity as a researcher has focused on four areas:
